About this Photo
The California Nebula (NGC 1499) is an emission nebula in the constellation Perseus that resembles the outline of the US State of California in long-exposure photographs. It is approximately 1,000 to 1,500 light-years from Earth and is illuminated by the hot, blue star Xi Persei. Due to its low surface brightness, it is difficult to see with the naked eye but is a popular target for astrophotographers.
Prints are sold unframed. For framing enquiries, please contact me directly.
